The Sixth Annual August Cup Soccer Tournament

will be held August 22-24, 2008

The August Cup Soccer Tournament will be held the weekend of August 22, 2008. The main venues will be Maryland's premier facilities for youth soccer, the Maryland SoccerPlex and the Polo grounds in Poolesville Maryland. This tournament brings all the excitement and action of a major tournament to U9-U19 travel teams along the east coast. All teams will play a minimum of three games with flight winners playing a fourth, championship game at the MD SoccerPlex.

The 2008 August Cup registration system is expected to open in early May. Team applications will be due July 1st.

What's new for 2008

  • Flight seeding structure changes - For round robin play the top eight teams of each age group will be seeded in the top two flights with the seeds 1, 3, 5 and 7 playing in flight A and seeds 2, 4, 6 and 8 playing in flight B. This modification provides more championship format for the higher skill level teams entered in the tournament. All other flights will continue to be seeded to play teams of similar skill levels in round robin play.
  • U12 will be offered as 8v8 games and will play on small sided fields with 6x18 goal.
  • New fields - The August Cup plans on making use of the three new artifical turf fields at the MD SoccerPlex.
  • Payment by credit card for all team registration fees.

DSC Jersey in CameroonDC UnitedPassback -The August Cup collects gently used soccer gear (jerseys, shorts, shoes, cleats, socks, gloves, etc) for Passback, the national program sponsored by the US Soccer Foundation and Major League Soccer that recycles our old gear so that others can enjoy the Beautiful Sport. Through Passback, thousands of pieces of usable gear to soccer programs all over the United States and all over the world, most recently including Afghanistan, Cameroon, and Iraq. Clean out those closets so others can play, and look for our collection bins next to the headquarters tent at the SoccerPlex.
